Blooming Sensitivity
"I was inspired by the edible flowers of Latin America. Visually I was inspired by the color and shape of them but I had the question of what if people approached clothing with the same passion and respect they have for eating creative, visually appealing food? "
The inspiration for this collection is the edible flowers of Latin America in the context of sustainability. I wanted to explore the idea of edible plants from areas in Latin America, where people still rely on the earth for food and medicine. The flowers are essential to the lives of these people and they have rich benefits. The other aspect of these flowers and plants is that they are readily available in great quantity, and tend to regrow fast. It is additionally important that a lot of the plants and flowers, such as the Zucchini Blossom and the Pacaya Palm, were discovered by trying to use the whole plant instead of discarding part of it.
This project best demonstrates my unique perspective and aesthetic by my strength of using different mediums to illustrate my ideas. My concept for this collection is unique and relies on senses and color. It helps me branch out of the normal primary color palette that I use so often. My drapes have progressed in this collection to be a more oversized silhouette.
My target customer is a woman between the ages of 25-45. She is likely to live in the city, in a place like New York. She is updated on the latest trends and likes a more oversized silhouette. She is adventurous in her silhouettes and color palette, and likely interested in the arts and concerned about the environment.
